Wisdom teeth and dental implants, planned with you before surgery day

Dr. Maha Elgendy trained in a hospital residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. As the oral surgeon here, she sees you, reads your scan, does the surgery and explains each step.

Wisdom teeth

From first visit to recovery, in four steps

Most patients arrive on their dentist's advice. This is the usual path and how long each part takes.

  1. One visit

    Step 1: Consult

You meet Dr. Elgendy, tell her what you have noticed and she looks at your mouth. Teens come with a parent or guardian. You leave with a written estimate.

    • About 30 minutes

    • Questions welcome

  2. One scan

    Step 2: Scan

A panoramic or 3D scan shows where each tooth sits and how close its roots are to nerves and sinuses. It is often taken at the consult.

    • Same visit, or the next

    • Shared with your dentist

  3. One visit

    Step 3: Procedure day

You agree on numbing or sedation beforehand. An adult drives you and stays. The removal itself usually takes under an hour; plan on a few hours in the office from check-in to going home.

    • A ride home is required for sedation

    • Fasting rules in writing

  4. At home

    Step 4: Recovery

Expect swelling and a sore jaw for several days. You go home with soft-food advice, written instructions and a number to call. Dr. Elgendy checks the area at a follow-up when she wants to see it.

    • Rest at home for a few days

    • A check if she wants one

Every surgery has risks, including bleeding, infection, dry socket and, rarely, numbness in the lip or tongue. Dr. Elgendy goes over them at the consult.

Sedation

Sedation, said plainly

Before you choose numbing, nitrous oxide or IV sedation, these are the questions we answer first.

  • Who gives it

Dr. Elgendy gives your sedation herself, under the sedation permit the Kansas Dental Board issues to her. A second trained team member watches you and does nothing else during the procedure.

  • How you are watched

Your heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level and breathing are monitored from start to finish. The office is equipped and trained to respond if any of them change.

  • Your ride home

For anything beyond numbing, an adult must drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. We reschedule if you come without one.

  • Fasting and medicines

We give you fasting rules in writing when you book. Tell us about every medicine you take and every condition you have; Dr. Elgendy may call your physician first.

Each level of sedation carries risks, from nausea to rare breathing and heart problems. Dr. Elgendy goes over yours before the day.

What we do here

Surgery, and only surgery

Cleanings, fillings, crowns and braces stay with your own dentist. We take what needs an oral surgeon.

  • Removal when they are impacted, crowded, infected or in the way of your dentist's plan.

  • Placing the implant that holds a crown, a bridge or a denture. Your dentist makes the tooth.

  • Taking out a tooth that can't be saved, and rebuilding the socket when an implant may follow.

  • The levels we offer, who gives each and how you are watched.

  • Swelling, pain or a problem after surgery, and what needs 911.

The people in the room

One surgeon, a small team

You see the same people at the consult, on surgery day and at the follow-up.

Karlie sets up the room and watches your breathing and pulse through the procedure.

  • Nichelle Tolbert

    Surgical coordinator

Nichelle books your visit, writes your estimate and answers the phone the morning after surgery.

For referring dentists

Your patient comes back to you

Send a referral through our secure form. After the visit we send your office the findings and a note on what was done.

We do the surgery. Cleanings, restorations and follow-up care stay with you, and when an implant is placed we tell you what the restoring dentist needs to know.

  • A secure referral form, never email

  • A written note back to your office

  • Scans shared when you send them

Questions before you call

Do I need my dentist to send me?

Most patients come on a dentist's advice, and we send your dentist a note afterward. You can also call us yourself. Your plan may have its own rule about referrals, so ask it before you book.

Will it hurt?

Most people feel pressure, not pain, once the area is numb, and we stop whenever you ask. You will feel sore afterward, and we tell you what to expect and what to take. If you want more than numbing, the sedation page says who gives it and how you are watched.

Can I get a written estimate first?

Yes. Before any treatment we give you a written estimate that lists each step and its fee. You can take it home to decide.

Who drives me home?

For any sedation beyond numbing, an adult must drive you and stay with you for the rest of the day. We will move your visit if you arrive without one.

What if I have swelling or bleeding after surgery?

Call us the same day. The urgent visits page lists what to do first and what needs 911 or an emergency room.

  • Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.
